One of the first revelations I received from God was about Him speaking. From a young girl, I would hear God audibly call my name, but I would hear it in my mom’s voice. I would always run to where she was and ask if she had called me. She would always say, “No, that was God. See what He wants.” Now, I always thought she was being funny when she said that until I got older and read the story of Samuel in 1 Samuel 3.
When Samuel was a kid, he was the assistant to Eli the priest. One night after Eli and Samuel had gone to bed, Samuel heard someone calling his name. He ran to Eli and asked if he had called him, and Eli said no and told him to go back to sleep. This happened two more times, and on the third time, Eli realized that God was the One calling Samuel. So, Eli told Samuel, “Go lay back down, and if your name is called again, say, ‘Speak Lord, your servant is listening.’”
At that moment, I realized that my mom was not just making a statement in response to what I asked; she was speaking to me biblically like Eli did with Samuel.
From that point on, I would say, “Speak, Lord; your servant is listening.” Most of the time, I would not get a response. I was always lying down, so I would just go back to sleep.
Then, God dropped this in my spirit one day. When I was younger and my mother would call me, I would always yell, “Ma’am?” from wherever I was. She wouldn’t respond, so I would yell again. After the second time, I would go to where she was to see what she needed, and then she would tell me. So, God showed me that sometimes when He calls you, He wants you to get up and go to where He is.
This may mean getting up and going to another room or just sitting up and being alert. Whatever it is, if you hear God call your name and you respond but hear nothing after, you may have to get up and go where He is.
I love you guys, and I want y’all FREE in Christ! Peace and blessings.
